Similar to a chuck roast, a round roast is more lean and perfectly suited for being cooked low and slow for a long time. Cooked to perfection, this roast will fall apart on your plate.
The Round Roast is cut from the hindquarter of the cow. Similar to the forequarter, this area consists of are heavily exercised, well-developed muscles. This muscles in this area of a cow tend to be more lean than those in the forequarter. That means these cuts are better suited to be cooked "low & slow". This cut is perfect for those 24 hour crock pot recipes. Cooked correctly and you will have a dish that is falling off the bone and packed with flavor.
Each package of Round Roast is about 1.5 lbs. which should comfortably serve four people (or more!). While braising may take longer, it is worth it. Try adding vegetables such as potatoes, carrots, and onions to your roast. All the flavors will soak into each other over the hours of cooking. Adding butter, salt, garlic, spices, and broth will allow more flavor to soak into the meat over time as well.
